The Mongolian winter festival "Blue Purl-2023"




JAMOGRAND photography team visited the “Ice festival-2023” event which was held on the southern edge of Khuwsgul Lake in Khuwsgul province Alagerdene soum, between March 1-5 this year to make images. The event is aimed to promote the preservation of Khuvsgul Lake and winter tourism in Mongolia.


Every year the ice festival is held in a broader range and it features an ice knuckle-bone shooting contest, bicycle and ice skate races, moto sports performance, sled dog race, tug of war, relay race, family contest, horse race, performance by the local musical drama theater, various singers form Ulaanbaatar city, traditional performance from Korea and some ritualistic activities.


Lake Khuvsgul is located in the northwest of Mongolia near the Russian border, at the foot of the eastern Sayan Mountains. It is 1,645 m (5,397 feet) above sea level, 136 km (85 miles) long, and 262 m (860 feet) deep. It is the second-most voluminous freshwater lake in Asia and holds almost 70% of Mongolia's fresh water and 0.4% of all the fresh water in the world.
